So much cuteness, so little time

Oh wow!

Does Oliver look pleased with himself? This was a very exciting day! A few hours ago, Oliver rolled over from his back to his tummy -- 3 times in a row. There were 6 adults standing around clapping -- and I believe at least one of them may have teared up a bit -- to mark the event.

Later, we had a serious talk about how with great power comes great responsibility, etc., etc. (Okay, so that's a lie. He was blowing spit bubbles and I was telling him that they were the best spit bubbles I've ever seen.)

P.S. Yesterday, I posted a note saying that I missed Oliver, and -- wonder of wonders -- I got to have dinner with Oliver AND his mommy AND his daddy AND his grandma AND Kevin AND Tim. It was a wonderful evening. I would like $15,000. :)

I Miss Oliver!

I have not seen Oliver in 5 days! He grows and changes so fast that this picture probably doesn't count as current anymore, but here is what he looked like last weekend:

(What is it about this child, I wonder, that causes me to abandon all of my standards about the use of exclamation points?!)

3 months old!

Here is a short audio clip of Oliver's little baby snores.

Oliver is 3 months old today -- he's officially not an infant any more, but a full-fledged baby. The next stage is toddler, so Tim decided to help him learn to toddle by getting him a walker -- perhaps more appropriately referred to as a sitter, and then when he got tired, a bit of a slumper.

He's pretty good with the upper body control, actually, and now he not only says 'goo' but also, occasionally, 'boo.' (The consonants that you make with your lips are more advanced than the consonants that you make in your throat.) He likes baths, long conversations about just about anything, milk, and people, especially his Mommy.

Going out in public with Oliver is like carrying a magic ticket. Strangers are so smiley and nice that it's almost weird -- like being in some parallel universe.

Hop on Pop

Yesterday was very beautiful -- sunny, 80 degrees, dry, and a little bit windy -- but nothing too exciting was happening, so I went over to see Oliver.

Oliver noticed that I was a little out of sorts, so he suggested that we read a story. Hop on Pop is just as cool as Harry Potter when you get to read it with the right person.

Fzzlfzzlzt

Jen sent me this picture of Oliver and asked what I thought of it. What do I think? The cuteness sort of short-circuits my brain -- there is no thought involved. :)

Just a little blurry

We have all been kind of busy lately, so I have fewer photos of Oliver. Alas.

Although he is a remarkably cheerful baby, he does have crabby days. Yesterday, Oliver was just not very pleased with his circumstances until a few minutes before he went home. The only time he was happy was when Jen was holding him. Poor baby.

Quite a day

So, I called Jen and said, "Tim and I would really like Oliver to come visit us on Sunday." And Jen said, "Well, I was thinking that Oliver would like to come to the grocery with me and then help chop vegetables... but I guess I could manage to make dinner by myself."

Tim and I had a plan for the day. It included: a long walk, making funny faces, drinking milk, burping, practicing our 'goo' noises, and other exciting activities. Oliver also had a plan, and here it is, in action:

Oh boy O boys...

Oct and Oliver had a playdate today, and, as you can see, Oliver thought Oct was just about the coolest guy ever.

Outside of the mirror, Oct is the first baby Oliver has ever met.

More Historical Perspective

Here's Oliver's daddy when he was a very cute baby.

And when he was a little bit older, with his mom in Thung Song, Thailand.

And here's a family portrait -- Oliver's grandparents with Oliver's daddy (Mee) in his school uniform.

Battery is exhausted

I got one picture last night before my camera flashed a notice that said "Battery is exhausted" and promptly died.

"Now see here," I told it. "I am exhausted, and yet I continue to function." Alas, one apparently can not shame a battery into working. It's a good thing Jen and Oliver are photogenic.

Historical Perspective

Just in case anyone was wondering where Oliver got those cheeks... here's Jen:

Little Mr. Stickyfingers

At the end of May, I got this picture on my phone from Oliver's Mommy:

...along with this message:

I found them hidden in Oliver's things. I apologize, I don't know what got into him. We talked and he is grounded.

So as not to lead Oliver into temptation, I got him his very own sunglasses, as shown here:

Alas, Oliver is apparently simply not interested in his own sunglasses, as I received this last night:

Those are Tim's sunglasses. Jen's message said that she could tell he feels really bad.

(The extent to which we amuse ourselves with this baby is a little silly, I guess. The truth, of course, is just that Tim and I tend to leave sunglasses everywhere we go.)

Update 7/17/2007: Oops. Stealing sunglasses might run in the family...

Oliver to the rescue!

Tim locked himself out of the house this morning, so Oliver went dashing to the rescue. Being heroic is, of course, completely exhausting.

All in all, 7/7/07 was a very lucky day for Molly and Tim because they got to spend most of it with Oliver, who is a thoroughly delightful companion.

Oliver is a lucky boy

So, Oliver was maybe getting just a teeny bit bored when -- suddenly -- there was a knock on the door. It was a guy with a big box, and in the box was this very cool thing with a musical turtle, a seahorse, and a crab dangling from it. Oliver was no longer bored -- he was absolutely mesmerized.

Presents from out of the blue are an awful lot of fun. If Oliver had any manners (or, you know, capacity for language), he would have said, "Wow, thanks Wendy and Joe!"

Oliver in the great outdoors

Oliver went on a great adventure for his very first 4th of July -- hiking in the woods along the Licking River in Kentucky. He's not really in a position to appreciate the concept of Independence Day -- his life is pretty much a celebration of Dependence -- nor does he have much of a taste for fireworks, since they're past his bedtime; he does seem to like walking (well, being held while someone else does the walking) outside quite a lot, though.

To protect his little feetballs, he wore a pair of utterly fascinating shoes.

Oliver had never worn shoes before and he seemed a little nonplussed by the experience. His Mommy removed his shoes and let him sit on her lap, which made him happy. See him looking approvingly at his little naked toes?

Oliver is a prodigy

Wow. Here's a video. It's bright enough to see and it's right side up. We are getting to be experts... and Oliver, of course, is a genius.

Oliver is a happy baby

Good heavens, we do have the video problems around here... this one is really well-lit, but you have to tilt your head. It's worth it, though...

Update: Ha! Ha HA HA! I got it rotated. You do NOT have to tilt your head to view this:

Oliver gets a visitor

This is Tim's mom -- she stopped by to visit, which Oliver enjoyed quite a lot. See the little smudge on his shoulder? That's from his first experience with chocolate -- it was accidental, but Jen said he also enjoyed THAT quite a lot.

Later, Oliver tried very hard to eat Tim's finger. Fortunately, he does not have any teeth.
